Finances and Feelings

Mid-way through editing the original “Finances for Actors” series (and while listening to the Suze Orman “Women & Money” podcast) I realized a big part of financial education that I hadn’t talked about was…emotion.

What habits did you pick up in those very formative years growing up that have influenced how you think about money today?

What are you feelings are you trying to fulfill by spending more money than you have on frivolous things? (If you have the money great – but if you don’t, why are you spending it?)

For me, I equate it with eating my feelings.

Do you need to feel fabulous – so you go buy a purse to try to show the outside world you are?

Why are you spending money you don’t have to impress people you don’t like? (Not my phrase – I’ve heard it from Gary Vaynerchuk, Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman.)

Look internally and find the emotions behind why you are spending like you are. Even if there are good habits you have!

Then, if you have kept any bad habits, don’t be hard on yourself. Praise yourself for learning, seeking knowledge and growth!

Know you know – so you can change!

I’m proud of you for seeking knowledge and wanting to grow.

That’s pretty awesome.
